What Are Nightly Notes?
- They're the opposite of Morning Pages.
- So they're written at night instead of first thing in the morning.
- They are typed instead of handwritten,
- They're public instead of private,
- They're guided by questions instead of flowing freely
- A completed entry consists of six questions and six answers instead of three pages
- Since they are public others are allowed to comment on them
For an interesting variation on daily writing see 100 words.
"To be really great in little things, to be truly noble and heroic in
the insipid details of everyday life, is a virtue so rare as to be worthy
of canonization."
Harriet Beecher Stowe as quoted by Angeles Arrien

Tonight's Questions and Answers
Monday, August 26, 2002
It is 11:07 pm. One day blogger and I will work out our time differences. Until then I'll state the time if I remember. If I don't remember then it will seem as if we are in a time warp.
- who impressed me the most today? Timothy Douglas, The Associate Artistic Director @ Actor's Theatre of Louisville. He gave a truly inspiring welcome at a PD I attended.
- what did I do all day? I went from room to room doing whatever most seemed to need doing.
- when did I finally leave the house today? 4:45 pm (excluding school drop off)
- where did I go today? Actor's Theatre for a teacher professional development.
- why didn't I get more done today? I needed to do one set of things per my to-do list but I really wanted to restart on a new piece. So I kept finding my mind wandering and then my body following and then I'd be in the studio piddling but not actually doing the one thing I know I need to do to start this project; gather all the misc. notes I've been writing on it, read them to get reaquainted with the piece and then get started.
- how could I have been more productive today? I could have logged. I've found that when my mind and my body want to do different things all I have to do is ask (in writing), "what would be the best use of the next hour?" I write the question. Then I answer the question. Then I do what I know needs to be done. Why didn't I do that today? Can I blame it on mercury being in retrograde? One time that actually worked but I don't think the timing is right. In truth I didn't do it because I should have gotten a trashy novel and stayed in the bed. I got an incredible amount of work done on Sunday. Which means that I didn't rest on my 7th day. That always leads to an unproductive Monday. When will I learn from my mistakes? Could one question lead to another all night?
